Lionsgate has released the initial official teaser trailer for your Expendables 2, and every part of its musclebound cast will receive a glance in, if possibly for just about any second.Clocking in at exactly 1 minute, the completely new trailer isn't overburdened with either action or exposition, but exactly what it demonstrates is Bruce Willis's character getting inside a extended-standing favour with old friend Sly Stallone.Take a look within the new trailer here... Together with a clip, Lionsgate also provide released the state synopsis which sheds a little more light which expect this time around around around."[They] are reunited when Mr. Chapel (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to battle a apparently simple job," describes the press blurb. "The task seems just like a simple paycheque for Barney and also the gang of old-school mercenaries, however, if things fail then one that goes for them is viciously destroyed, the Expendables are compelled to locate revenge in hostile territory in which the options stacked against them."In truth, we just find exciting to find out Arnold Schwarzenegger firing a sizable old gun again! One strange factor though... why "Also Van Damme"? It might just be the first time we view that credit! The Expendables 2 opens in the usa on 17 August 2012.

Glee's Holiday Throwback: Let's Go back to Christmas inside the '60s!
Glee Oh, Marti Noxon, you'd fun writing that certain didn't you. The Buffy vet, who works like a speaking to producer on Glee this season, made her episodic writing debut with "Amazing Merry Christmas," a near-plotless throwback for the Judy Garland Show's boozy, high-as-a-kite holiday special (and old-timey variety special deals generally). How can this be? Last season, they switched Sue to the Grinch (literally) and gave Artie fake legs (literally). Why not deliver a carol-jolly Christmas by serving up some Yuletide chestnuts and the most effective of '60s TV (accents! corny jokes! canned laughter!)? But simply just in case you missed the story stuff, or did not remember it, or blocked it, here's what you should know: Mr. Schue picks Artie to direct a throwback Christmas special for Lima's cable-access station, which intervenes while using glee club's promise to help Sue serve inside a destitute shelter (this year, she's the anti-Grinch), nonetheless they appear anyway to sing this rock band Aid classic "Can They Know It's Christmas?" Also, Mike and Rory bond over being alone for your holidays, and Rachel finds out the actual idea of Christmas (also to love the pig that Finn bought her as it is the concept that counts). Watch full cases of Glee The comfort in the 30 roughly minutes was filled by Artie's trippy vision, shot in black and white-colored, situated by Kurt and Blaine (introduced as "my nearest friend and holiday roommate" inside their "bachelor chalet") and starring brand new Directions minus Quinn and Mike. It absolutely was... oddly enchanting, amusing and kinda strange, for Glee. Look for the episode to separate Glee fans. You'll find people people that don't mind a Rocky Horror hour, or hallucinating/huffing within the dental office... and there is a relaxation people. Us? We loved the experimental special-within-the-special. So given everything, we made a decision to put the night's performances because when Christmas-y they provided us feel, beginning while using lump of coal. 9. "River" Not a problem with Joni Mitchell, and "River" doesn't make us depressed the means by which "Christmas Shoes" does. But if we are ranking tunes in order which gave us the nice cozy fuzzies, this ain't it. Maybe if Rachel happen to be singing it for that reason as opposed to just who audition it for Artie? Very not-Joni-like. 8. "Blue Christmas" Glee Project champion Damian McGinty is especially good at handling slow oldies like that certain, but can't they let Rory sing something fun? Cheerful? Up-tempo? Heck, just permit him to maneuver around just a little instead of standing still as you're watching choir room. (If you've been watching carefully like we have, you'll note he's an easy method worse dancer than Finn! What makes them not benefiting from it?) "That song am depressing I would be dead," Santana states, and how Rory shipped it, we kind of have to agree. Have a look at photos from Glee 7. "The Most Popular Things" 'Tis the summer season for the Appear of Music! If possibly we'd a pillow to toss in mid-air like Maria! This cheer-up classic was shipped with gusto by question quarter Rachel, Kurt, Blaine and Mercedes, plus it put smiles on our faces...but technically it is not a Christmas song, and there's much more cheer later on. 6. "Amazing Merry Christmas" Just about any pop act in the last 20 years has not successful at crafting a completely new holiday classic (apart from Mariah Carey, see below). Glee costs somewhat better using this original number, due to spirited performances by Rachel and Blaine, the sensors without anyone's understanding as well as the Santa shout-outs - it's almost enough to cover how very generic the song itself sounds. 5. "Let It Snow" Kurt and Blaine carry on with it within Artie's special, and producers fortunately didn't wish to modernize the track. Rather less production goes a extended way if the involves an excellent yuletide number. Plus: The pair apply certain pretty smooth dances moves completely from an Andy Williams' variety hour. 4. "Can They Know It's Christmas?" Coupled with images of latest Directions giving wrapped gifts to destitute children, the best song in the episode is obviously feel-good and familiar enough, it's just not typically the most popular Christmas song, leaning more toward "Christmas Shoes" in sentiment. Still, it will likely be a pleasant ending for the episode. 3. "Santa Claus Is Going to Town" Yes. Put a tambourine in Finn's hands more often! He and Puck have the ability to accept schmaltz lower merely a notch (although fitted as Luke Skywalker and Han Solo) and infuse Artie's throwback having a couple of much-needed rock. Due to Puck's dorky, toothy grin and Finn's high energy, much-covered rendition still packs a cheesy and effective Christmas punch. (And producers, if you would like any longer proof Cory Monteith must take care of Bruce Springsteen, your research has ended.) 2. "Christmas Wrapping" The Waitresses' 1981 song of a lady too busy for Christmas may well be a tad too new wave-y (and obscure) for a lot of Glee audiences (even though the Spice Women did pay for this), but hello? The Cheerios dressed in Santa clothes? Twirling laces and laces and ribbons? Brittany bouncing around within the forefront? Christmas wish satisfied. 1. "All I'd Like for Christmas Is You SimplyInch Will there be far better method to start a Christmas episode in comparison to Mercedes coping with this Mariah Carey little bit of pop perfection? No. Sure, it did not have reason behind the episode, but (clearly) we like to watching these kids romp around to holiday music. As well as, since we even fondly can remember the Olivia Olson version from Love Really, clearly we love to that certain. Whether it doesn't allow you to get inside your foot, try checking for just about any pulse. Whoever else consider the episode? Which tunes generate the holiday spirit? Which made you appear such as the Grinch? Was Artie's vision great or bizarre? Or both? Reveal inside the comments below.

Golden Globes Comedy versus. Drama Category Fight Rages On
This short article first made an appearance within the 12 ,. 2 problem from the Hollywood Reporter magazine.our editor recommendsCameron Crowe Discloses How He Lured Matt Damon for 'We Purchased a Zoo' Names His 5 Favorite MoviesBehind the Moments of THR's Author Roundtable 2011THR's Author Roundtable: 6 Top Scribes Talk Standing to Clint Eastwood, Coping with Rewrites and Being Fired because of your Wife8 Possible Hollywood Targets for Ough Gervais in the Golden Globes The suspense is building. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has clarified one question: Yes, Ough Gervais is going to be to host for that third time once the 69th annual Golden Globe Honours airs Jan. 15 on NBC in the Beverly Hilton. PHOTOS: It's a Zoo This Year -- 23 Honours Challengers Featuring Creatures However you will find much more questions surrounding which films, Television shows and performances is going to be nominated 12 ,. 15. If this involves movies, the HFPA options can frequently appear quite, well ... idiosyncratic may be the kindest method to place it. The problem isn't just which films the audience decides to appoint however in what category. Unlike the Academy awards, the Globes have two groups for the best picture, actor and actress -Body looking for dramas and the other looking for musicals or comedies. And each year that creates a debate or two. Last season, Globes-viewers were left trembling their heads when romantic thriller The Tourist was treated like a comedy and it is leads The Actor-brad Pitt and Julia Roberts both obtained nominations. STORY: THR's Company directors Roundtable: How you can Fire People, Who to Steal From, and Amy Pascal's Secret Advice Drama or Musical/Comedy? Because Hollywood tosses out less musicals or comedies throughout honours season, the Globes' musical/comedy groups are usually less competitive. And thus galleries, whether they can pull off it, frequently would rather steer a film in to the comedy selection for any clearer road to noms and wins. Within the situation of certain dramedies, the road is truly vague, so marketers can legitimately claim a comedy slot. This season, numerous funny films cope with serious subject material: 50/50 (cancer), Beginners (sexual orientation and cancer) Carnage (aggression) and Youthful Adult (narcissism) happen to be posted for musical/comedy. There, they'll end up rivaling two genuine comedies which are the obvious front-runners: Michel Hazanavicius' The Artist and Woodsy Allen's Night time in Paris. There also might be room for raucous comedies for example Bridesmaids and Horrible Bosses. PHOTOS: Golden Globes 2011 Red-colored Carpet Style Disney attempted to conquer the machine by posting The Assistance, its sixties Southern period piece like a comedy, however the HFPA, to the credit, vetoed the concept. Fox Searchlight and The new sony considered posting their particular films The Descendants and Moneyball within the comedy warmth but ultimately made the decision against it. So individuals films will duke it for any best drama slot with a few of the films that haven't yet been broadly tested: War Equine, Very Noisy and extremely Close and also the Girl Using the Dragon Tattoo. Lead or Supporting? One factor to look at within the acting groups is whether or not the HFPA will accept the galleries' demands to think about certain stars in specific groups or go rogue and nominate large names in whatever category it is very pleasing to. The audience has a tendency to favor A-listers within the lead groups, no matter studio preferences. The new sony Pictures Classics really wants to see all stars of Carnage, including Jodie Promote and Kate Winslet, treated as supporting gamers, and Warners is suggesting that Noisy's Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks be also put in the supporting races. But because of the HFPA's history, they might just like easily emerge as lead acting nominees, when they aren't overlooked altogether. Exactly the same could affect Bridesmaids scene-stealer and Emmy champion Melissa McCarthy. STORY: THR's Author Roundtable: 6 Top Scribes Talk Standing to Clint Eastwood, Coping with Rewrites and Being Fired because of your Wife Stars or Celebrities? While you will find lots of rising stars who've completed honours-worthy work this season -- Michael Fassbender in Shame along with a Harmful Method, Elizabeth Olsen in Martha Marcy May Marlene -- the Globes voters would rather lure the greatest stars easy to their party. Which was the only real reason behind individuals nominations for Depp and Jolie, who appeared a little embarrassed by them. When the HFPA does insist upon singling out large stars, it will opt a minimum of for large stars in good films like Margin Call, by which Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore and Zachary Quinto all shine. The Globes might have the ability to pull off rewarding Depp for playing Jack Sparrow again -- he's received one nomination for your Pirates from the Caribbean role -- although not the godawful The Rum Diary. Jolie also might make coming back appearance as director of Within the Land of Bloodstream and Honey, that is carried out in Serbian with subtitles. Which means it qualifies for that Globes' foreign-language film category, where Jolie would be easily probably the most glamorous contender. In the end, Gervais gets a pass, so why wouldn't you Angelina? Bonjour! Watch the Trailer for January's Beauty and the Beast 3D Re-Release
Be Movieline’s guest and revisit everyone’s favorite tale as old as time, the second release in Disney’s quest for total world domination (AKA, The ‘See How Much Money Lion King 3D Made Us??’ business plan) which brings vintage Disney classics back to screens in limited runs in restored 3-D. Next up is 1991’s Beauty and the Beast, a singalong favorite for children of the ’90s that’s sure to make another bazillion or so dollars. Watch the trailer and decide if you’re giddy to see Belle sweep the Beast off his cloven feet with her brainy book smarts or just curious to know what Robby Benson’s up to these days… Producer Don Hahn, who also produced The Lion King and oversaw its recent 3-D conversion and re-release, is back to guide Beauty and the Beast’s 3-D run, although I’m not quite sold on the muted visual presentation in the trailer below; the final polish must look better than this if it’s going to be worth the ticket price. To be fair, Beauty and the Beast’s Blu-ray presentation was fairly gorgeous, and the Disney team managed to make Lion King’s sprawling tundras come even more alive in 3-D. So, sure: Mark your calendars for January 13, 2012! [Yahoo!]

The merits of 'Melancholia'
Kirsten Dunst in 'Melancholia.'Von TrierWhen Lars Von Trier launched into his infamous tirade in Cannes, distributors who had the rights to his latest pic, "Melancholia," may have despaired -- but in fact, the film is doing good business. The question is: Could it have done better? Long-time students of this self-proclaimed anarchist and mischievous provocateur, who now insists he is not really a Nazi and was only kidding, would have been justified in exclaiming, as does Kirsten Dunst's character in the film, "What did you expect?"Anyone who thought Von Trier's distribution partners, many of whom have stood by the director since his breakout hit "Breaking the Waves" in 1996, would turn against him, will be disappointed. Cannes may have declared Von Trier to be "persona non grata," but his film, which opened in the U.S. Nov. 11 and grossed $257,174 from 19 screens over its opening weekend, has been given a warm welcome by many film critics, fellow professionals and cinemagoers. Several of the movie's distribs have already signed up to release Von Trier's next film, erotic drama "Nymphomaniac," and last week the European Film Academy rewarded "Melancholia" with eight nominations in its annual awards. The film's box office gross stands at $14.4 million through Nov. 13, a figure that is likely to rise substantially as the pic is still running in theaters in several territories, and has yet to open in many others. With video and TV sales added to the pot, production company Zentropa is likely to easily recoup its investment on the film. But still the thought remains: It could have been so much better if he'd just kept his mouth shut."When I saw the film, I thought it was fantastic; really powerful. I was so impressed that I thought it could win a major prize in Cannes; perhaps not the Palme d'Or, but the Grand Prix," recalls Regine Vial, head of distribution at French indie Les Films du Losange. As it was, the film had to make do with the actress award for Dunst.Vial opened the film in August and is glad she did. Although many people in France go to the beach for most of that month, there was little competition in the arthouse market, which gave the film a clear run in the press, and time to build its audience through word of mouth. Vial was even invited to appear on radio shows to talk about the scandal, which gave her the opportunity to shift the focus onto the film.In the two months between Cannes and the opening, she had vigorously promoted the film through preview screenings at locations where the chattering classes gather. These included a theater festival in Avignon and a film festival in Corsica."We wanted to show the film straightaway in as many place as possible to let people see that this was a fantastic piece of filmmaking, and allow word to spread," Vial says. "Melancholia" has taken $3.4 million in Gaul as of Nov. 13 -- more than any other territory -- and it is still playing in theaters there, but Vial believes it could have been even more popular if Von Trier hadn't have run his mouth, and the film had won one of the top prizes in Cannes. Before the festival, Vial had hoped the film would achieve a box office of around $4.2 million; she now expects it to end on about $3.8 million. Antonio Medici, general director at Italy's BIM Distribuzione, is also dismayed about the fallout from Von Trier's rant in Cannes. He says some theater owners declined to take the film, and although others took their place, he feels the outburst distracted from the film's undoubted quality, and led some people to avoid it. "Melancholia" had a poor opening weekend in Italy on Oct. 21, but has recovered slightly since. Medici estimates that the box office, which now stands at $638,164 as of Nov. 13, will end up between $676,000 and $744,000, which is about 30% below the company's estimate in the run-up to Cannes. Medici blames the shortfall on the controversy, which was covered in primetime news shows on all the main TV channels in Italy."Some months had passed, but I believe there were still people that didn't want to watch a movie from a man who made such a statement," Medici says.Ivo Andrle, acquisitions head at Aerofilms, the film's Czech distributor, had a more positive experience. He opened the "Melancholia" immediately after Cannes, and has banked $192,000 and finished its run; this is 57% more than the $109,000 he forecast before the festival. He says the controversy created an appetite in the media for news about Von Trier, which he then fed with tidbits about the film itself."The media attention started with the scandal, and grew rapidly, but they just talked about the scandal and not about the film. So we tried to follow up and give them further topics to include in their coverage," he says. So, how do you solve a problem like Von Trier? Well, the director may already have supplied the answer himself, when he declared last month he had sworn a vow of silence. His pics' distributors hope that in the future he will allow his films to speak for themselves. n Contact Leo Barraclough at leo.barraclough@variety.com

AFM 2011: Ex-Groupon Executive Takes New Venture Prescreen to Santa Monica
Groupon, the online deals company of which Shawn Bercuson was a co-founder, had its IPO on Friday. But Bercuson, who turns 30 next week, was already in Santa Monica for his first-ever AFM to look for content and business deals for his latest venture, Prescreen. The online platform for long-form content, mostly movies, but also concerts, launched in September and wants to provide filmmakers and distributors with an alternative to traditional distribution channels, online and otherwise. It features curated content, with a film suggestion and trailer emailed to users every day - Groupon-style. Users can rent it for $4 on day one and $8 for the rest of a 60-day period. "It's not about an investment of money, but of time," Bercuson, who is Prescreen's founder and CEO, explains. Once rented and started, people can view the content for up to 48 hours. And they can share it through their social networks. One key social aspect about the site is the TrendSpotter feature, which earns users credits toward their next movie if they are one of the first 5 percent of at least 20 people to purchase a movie or get three of their friends to buy it. The content owner gets 50 percent of the revenue a film makes on the site, information on how often a film has been bought and privacy-protected information on the people who chose it, including their age bracket, the city they live in and their interests, among other things. With info that a film has an addressable market of 1.7 million people, that most buyers are 18-24 and live in California and New Mexico, and that their interests include cooking, French films and dancing can help with targeted online marketing, which Bercuson wants to start offering, and limited release and other forms of targeting. "Ultimately, we care about shifting ad dollars to online" hope to earn commissions from content partners for digital ad buys, he says. Standup comedy shows, which Prescreen hopes to add to the mix, could also include a link to ticket buying sites in another useful service to content partners, he says. Prescreen, which Bercuson says his team still sees as being in beta mode, already has 50,000 users and is adding about 1,000 per day. Its first movie was How to Start Your Own Country, which got about 90 rentals. A concert from the band The Civil Wars has also been on offer. "This week, we had our first breakout movie," he adds. I Am sold over 550 rentals in one day and stood at 4,092 trailer views and 676 buys as of Friday. Overall Prescreen views stand at around 2,100. The company has a staff of 11. How does the team select content? Bercuson says they look for material that is either entertaining, educational, enlightening or inspiring. And he says he wants to bring people some hidden gems. The site touts that movies on Prescreen get "blockbuster exposure on an indie budget." Content can be in the pre-theatrical, theatrical or even DVD or later stage, but has to be exclusive in Prescreen's online realm for its period that it is on the site. "It can be available - more expensively - in electronic sell-through, but it makes sense to use us earlier in the life cycle because of the research you get, Baucson says. "We have a lot of movies, but don't schedule more than a week ahead," he adds. That allows the site to offer films tied to world events or societal trends, such as the Occupy Wall Street movement. Prescreen is only Web-enabled now, but plans to be on iPads, phones and Web-enabled TV sets down the line. Prescreen incorporated in February, Bercuson raised $1 million from Groupon friends and venture capitalists in March, hired the first engineer in May, and the site is already up and running. Bercuson says he enjoys movies, but was never a film buff and knew nothing about the film business until he went skiing in Sundance with his father and was asked by friends who were attending the film festival to take meetings about digital distribution. "I stumbled in, but it became all-consuming," he recalls. "I saw great opportunity...I thought that if I don't do it, someone else will." His next goal: getting a trial run from a big studio - there have already been some talks - and crossing 100,000 views on one day. At AFM, he is looking to meet indie filmmakers, content owners and other possible business partners. "We're here looking for content and do business development," he says. What has Baucson learned about the movie business so far? The average trailer is too long for online viewing, losing 30 percent of viewers every 30 seconds, he said. "Online audiences are different from people who sit in a movie theater," he says. "Online trailers have to be much shorter." How does he feel about Groupon's IPO, which was priced at $20 and saw the stock of the online deals site rise 31 percent to $26.11? "It's exciting to be part of something that has changed and invented an industry," Baucson says. "I got up a little earlier today and lost a little sleep over it and was checking my phone more than usual. But it didn't change me. It hasn't really sunk in." Taylor Lautner On Jacobs Breaking Dawn Journey: He Has To Move On
First Published: November 4, 2011 10:41 AM EDT Credit: Access Hollywood Caption Taylor Lautner at the junket for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, Los Angeles, Nov. 3, 2011LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Taylor Lautner may have a six pack (at least), a chiseled jaw line and an athletic physique, but hes an old softie when it came to filming his last scene in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1. It didnt help that my very last scene was an emotional scene to begin with. It was this last dance between Jacob and Bella, Taylor recounted to Access Hollywoods Shaun Robinson on Thursday in Los Angeles. Hes sort of saying goodbye to her, and shes saying goodbye to him. Shes going on her honeymoon, and hes [realizing], All right, its over. Youve got to get over her. Shes married. Shes going to have fun with Edward. Its done. It was an emotional scene, he continued. Just being the last scene that we filmed, it was tough. Taylor said fans would see a real journey for his character, werewolf Jacob Black, in the upcoming film. Jacob goes through a ton in this movie. Hes finally able to grow up and make decisions, Taylor told Shaun. Hes never really had to do that before, so he didnt. Then this one, he has to make a decision. He has to move on. He has to grow up and become a man. Hes being torn between his family and the Cullens, and whats the right thing to do? Hes sort of a middleman, bouncing back and forth. It was really challenging for me. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 hits theaters on November 18. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. Kim Kardashian Keeping The Ring?
First Published: November 2, 2011 7:04 PM EDT Credit: WireImage LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption Kim Kardashian in Hollywood (inset a close-up of her engagement ring), August, 17, 2011Kim Kardashians marriage to NBA star Kris Humphries may be over but shes apparently keeping her 20-carat engagement ring. She is going to keep the ring, Peoples Assistant Editor Jen Garcia, a guest at Kims August nuptials, told Access Hollywood on Wednesday, quoting sources that spoke to the mag. Since Kardashian was the one who broke it off, etiquette dictates that she should give it back, but according to Garcia, the reality star is attached to the rock. Its something thats debatable, obviously, with etiquette, but it was a gift to her, it was a present and its something very sentimental to her, Garcia told Access Hollywood. According to estimates, the ring is actually worth about $2 million, which is nearly $1 million shy of Humphries reported 2011 $3.2 million salary with the New Jersey Nets. Humphries yearly salary, however, is dwarfed by his estranged wifes sizable paycheck. Forbes has reported she made about $12 million last year. And with an NBA lockout still in effect, Humphries isnt earning any money from playing basketball. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. All rights reserved. 'Harold and Kumar' Star Kal Penn Not 'Vanilla' Enough for a lot of Casting Company company directors
Kal Penn's extended, strange visit to the 'Harold & Kumar' franchise is well-recorded -- Penn needed couple of years taken off acting to make use of Obama and also the administration -- but no matter time away, it seems hardly any has changed since his sabbatical began. Inside an interview with Movieline's Jen Yamato, Penn spoken concerning the "color bar" in Hollywood that prevents non-Whitened stars and stars from getting certain roles. While saying he's been "fortunate" while using roles he's become -- in 'Harold & Kumar,' 'Superman Returns' and TV's '24' and 'How I Met Your Mother' among others -- Penn states he still misses on parts because of his race (Penn's parents are natives of India). "It's become infinitely better in the last eight years, specifically in television. However, you'll still audition for things constantly and so they inform you, 'We desire to maintain it a little more vanilla' [...] The other day there's a movie that we was up for getting a really prominent African-American actor which i had been told one reason I didn't have the job was simply because they were not at ease with several people of color inside the cast. So, still happens. It happens although less now laptop or computer did eight in the past, and hopefully it happens less eight years from now laptop or computer does today, but you will discover sadly some backwards-thinking producers left in Hollywood." For further on Penn's in time the White-colored House, mind to Movieline to determine the whole interview. 'A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas' hits theaters on Friday. Analyst: YouTube Channels No Immediate Threat to Entertainment Companies
NY -- YouTube's long-expected channels initiative, which the Google-owned video site finally unveiled late Friday, is no immediate threat to entertainment companies, but it could grab some advertising dollars traditionally focused on TV and position Google as a competitor over time, Barclays Capital analyst Anthony DiClemente said in a report on Tuesday.our editor recommendsHollywood Conglomerate Earnings Season: Ad Outlook, Digital Deals to Be in FocusYouTube Announces TV Initiative With 100 Niche Channels The report, entitled "Will YouTube's offering move the needle?," analyzed the planned launch of around 100 online video channels with such celebrities as Jay-Z, Madonna, Shaquille O'Neal, Amy Poehler, Sofia Vergara and Tony Hawk, designed to create a next-generation video hub. "While we do not believe this is an immediate threat to studios, content providers or distributors just yet, we do believe this is Google's first step toward providing a more robust platform for professionally produced independent content, and believe the move positions Google to act as a distributor in a bid toward capturing incremental ad dollars that are traditionally directed toward TV," DiClemente wrote. For media and entertainment companies, over time, "this creates an emerging threat in terms of engagement, ad dollars and distribution, an incremental bidder for original content and another vehicle for consumers to circumvent the traditional pay TV model," he warned. After all, online video advertising is the fastest-growing ad category online, and he projects it to grow 43 percent in 2011 to $2 billion. "We believe YouTube accounts for the lion's share of these ad dollars with $1.6 billion in 2011," the Barclays analyst estimated. "YouTube is uniquely positioned here as it is by far the most watched online video property with 161 million unique viewers in September." With its channel launches, Google "becomes a major player in independent short-form, professionally produced content, and sets itself up to be new media distribution platform and gain incremental ad dollars," DiClemente concluded. BTIG analyst Richard Greenfield had said in a blog post on Monday that the YouTube channels are the latest premium online video offer that will compete for consumers' attention just like Netflix and other online video providers. "We wonder if it will eventually end up being a negative for today's leading/established content creators," Greenfield said. "The average U.S. household is watching over eight hours of TV per day, and when you start to layer in a wide spectrum of content from the Web, especially older content, we believe traditional television and movie content, especially fresh/live content, will suffer." Major League Soccer 2010 nfl playoffs: David Beckham Leads L.A. on the Universe Mission for any Championship
David Beckham The Main League Soccer 2010 nfl playoffs begin today and tell you November 20, once the latter teams standing will have for that MLS Cup. The 2010 title game is going to be held in the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., home stadium from the La Universe, who once more put together the very best regular-season record to win the Supporters' Shield and therefore are, a minimum of in writing, they to conquer. "They've an ideal mixture of celebrities, youthful talent and veterans who've been within the league a very long time," states ESPN's Adrian Healey. "All around the park they're solid. Defensively they have been very difficult to score on. The only real factor you question about using the Universe may be the weight of expectation in it. That may so frequently sink teams. They almost breezed towards the Supporters' Shield, the ultimate reaches their stadium, they're likely to be there." (The Universe have formerly won the MLS Cup two times, although not since 2005.) The Universe will enjoy the unique architecture from the MLS 2010 nfl playoffs, which starts Western Conference rivals Dallas Sounders and Real Salt Lake - no. 2 and three seed products overall - against one another within the two-part conference semifinals (Saturday, March. 29, 10/9c on Fox Soccer, and Wednesday, November. 2, time TBD on ESPN2). Meanwhile, L.A. will face the cheapest-seeded team to outlive the outlet-round wild-card matches (Sunday, March. 30, time TBD on ESPN or ESPN2, and Thursday, November. 3, 11/10c on ESPN2). One large - and surprising - reason behind L.A.'s success and playoff prospects is David Beckham. Within the final year of his MLS contract, the 36-year-old Englishman has supported his status like a marketing marvel with excellent on-area qualifications, finishing second the league in assists and supplying strong leadership. "He's were built with a magnificent year. I am really surprised he isn't more within the conversation to be league MVP," states Healey, who suspects Beckham will sign a brand new contract not less than yet another year in L.A. "He's happy here, his family's settled. It might rely on what goes on towards the Universe within the 2010 nfl playoffs. When they win the championship, he might contemplate it job done." Date Set For James Murdoch To Face MPs
UPDATE: Giving evidence to British MPs investigating the News Corporation phone-hacking scandal this afternoon, former Wall Street Journal boss Les Hinton said he saw no reason why James Murdoch should resign. Hinton was giving evidence via video-link. Hinton testified that he hasnt spoken to the Metropolitan police about phone-hacking, nor has Viet Dinh, the independent News Corp board member whos overseeing the companys investigation into the scandal, questioned him. Neither was Hinton aware of any payments to police or other private detectives working for News International. And he was not personally involved in internal investigations into phone hacking at News International, the UK newspaper arm, when he was executive chairman. John Whittingdale, chairman of the UK parliamentary committee cross-examining Hinton, was overheard telling a fellow MP that Hintons evidence was “interesting, but that there was no bombshell there”. PREVIOUS: News Corp deputy COO James Murdoch will face British MPs for a second time on November 10. He will defend himself as to whether he misled British politicians investigating the phone-hacking at the News of the World. The $64,000 dollar question is this: did James pay $1.4M in hush money in 2008 to a hacking victim who could have disclosed that the scandal ran much deeper than the company publicly admitted? James said he didnt. But three former News executives dispute the testimony he gave in July when he last faced MPs. His enemies say either James knew more about hacking than he admitted or, as chairman of UK newspaper arm News International, he ought to have known. Les Hinton, the former Wall Street Journal boss and Rupert Murdoch confidante, has been called to testify today. Im sure that James Murdoch will be better prepared and better scripted this time around, and will merely repeat what he said before. MPs still have to come up with a smoking gun. In fact, having seen off last weeks threat to oust him, his brother Lachlan and father Rupert from News Corps board, James appears more solid in his position than he has been for months. There is a sense over here that the heat is going out of the phone-hacking investigations. Partly the UK government does not want to rock the boat, despite what it says publicly, and partly journos giving evidence to the separate Leveson Inquiry into the phone-hacking scandal are scared for their careers.

HBO Hungary counters production drought
BUDAPEST -- Despite an ongoing state budget crisis and a flagging economy that has ground scores of film and TV productions to a halt, the HBO Hungary pay TV network is launching two homegrown series, a slate of documentaries and will soon have a new head of regional production.HBO Hungary, part of the HBO Central Europe (HBO CE) network, announced that a local version of the Israeli drama "Be Tipul" (aired as "In Treatment" in the U.S.) will begin shooting in Budapest on Nov. 22 ahead of an autumn 2012 premier.HBO Hungary has greenlighted a 40-episode first season, which the network is hoping will be a hit based on the strong reception of the format in Romania, where the series is now entering its second season.Local versions of the "Be Tipul" format are about to premier on HBO Czech and Poland. In addition, the network will premiere a Hungarian version of a second Israeli format, "When Shall We Kiss" on Oct. 23. A cult hit when it aired on Israel's Channel 10 in late 2007, the "When Shall We Kiss" format (originally produced by Abot Barkai Productions) is also being considered for other markets in HBO CE, said Katalin Schulteisz, Original Production Executive for HBO Hungary.According to the series' Israeli creator Dalit Kahan, this format is also being produced in Russia and the Ukraine by another broadcaster, and Kahan credits the accessibility of the series' characters for its adaptability. "It is a human story everyone can relate to," Kahan told Variety. But future HBO productions will not be restricted to formats. In addition to on-going documentary production (HBO Hungary alone produces as many as three to four new docs a year), HBO CE is now considering original scripted productions."We want to move out of using formats and start producing our own material," said Schulteisz. "We're now looking at lots of scripts and concepts."Production is expected to accelerate after Oct. 17 when Antony Root, former senior VP European Production for Sony Pictures Television, begins his first day on the job as executive vice president of regional production for HBO CE. Root is expected to oversee and coordinate production in all HBO CE's networks.HBO's production blitz comes as recession, budget cuts and industry restructuring has created a historic slowdown in Hungarian domestic film-making. "I feel like I'm on an island," admitted production executive Schulteisz. "It's an exciting time to be [at HBO]. Not very many people are doing what we are doing in the market place. Not with this quality." Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com

About That Time Oscar Nominee John Hawkes Got Into a Fight on the Set of 'Johnny Be Good'
In 1988, there was a terrible movie released called 'Johnny Be Good,' starring Anthony Michael Hall as a star high school quarterback. If there were any lingering doubt as to how bad 'Johnny Be Good' really is, you should just re-read the last ten words of the previous sentence. One of the cultural oddities of 'Johnny Be Good' is that future Academy Award nominee John Hawkes appears as a pizza delivery boy who winds up on the receiving end of a pie-to-the-face delivered by Paul Gleason ('The Breakfast Club,' 'Trading Places'). For reasons I don't understand, I decided to bring up 'Johnny Be Good' while speaking with Hawkes about his quite fantastic performance in 'Martha Marcy May Marlene' (the full interview will publish next week). As I learned, the film is -- understandably -- not Hawkes' favorite subject, and the inquiry led to the following awkward exchange. It turns out, while shoving a pie into Hawkes' face, Gleason probably didn't exactly pull his punch -- leading to an altercation on the set. [Note, Hawkes didn't actually name Gleason as the instigator, but after watching the embedded clip below, it's pretty easy to decipher the "older actor" to which Hawkes refers.] What are your memories of playing the pizza guy in 'Johnny Be Good'? Oh my god. It's one of the first things I did and it's probably one of the most embarrassing things. And it's something that I try to kind of really forget and not talk about. Only because I fell the work was pretty awful on my end. I was living in Texas, it was money -- there were a lot of things about that job that were not great. I don't want to go too deeply into it. I had an issue with an older actor who has passed away who was pretty mean to me, physically, in the movie. To the point where there was intercession from other actors. Anyway, it was just not a great experience, I would say. I have no idea why I brought that up. And it was going so well! I feel I just ruined the whole thing. Not at all, man. Honestly, I would have never thought in a million years the 'Johnny Be Good' would be a controversial subject. Well, I'm just embarrassed by it. I'm also just embarrassed by the work, but, you know, that's how you learn and try to get better next time. I accept your scorn. Aw, no scorn. Now for weeks I'll be screaming in my shower, "Why did I have to bring up 'Johnny Be Good'?! Why?!" Cross it off the list. That's the problem with IMDb, too, because you hope those little tiny ones would slip away. It does stand out when you think of John Hawkes. "'Johnny Be Good'? That's weird." And Uma Thurman, come on. And Robert Downey Jr. -- these are people who have been nominated for big awards... at their worst. It's a good thing that we don't think of you when when 'Johnny Be Good' is mentioned. I like that. Matt's Help guide to Thursday TV: A Vintage Community and all sorts of that Jazz
Danny Pudi There is no comedy series that can compare with Community, and out of the box frequently the situation with your an uncompromised original, being this defiantly different has a cost. But yet, that cost is commonly the kind of cellar-dwelling rankings that will get most shows canceled, if on every other network. Fortunately, NBC can ill afford nowadays to show away any reveal that will get this type of cult and media buzz, although everybody wishes it used to do better or were designed currently period (that old 30 Rock slot presently being wasted on Whitney, maybe?) that may increase its exposure. May be are from our control. All we are able to do is keep beating the drums inside a craze of admiration when episodes as extremely, strangely entertaining as tonight's "Remedial Chaos Theory" (8/7c) arrive. It is the kind of riotous experiment which will reward replaying, to savor and focus from every imaginable position. Because you will find many at play here, the existential point. The setting is Troy and Abed's new apartment "of perpetual virginity" (Jeff's snarky first reaction), in which the study group has collected for any classic "bottle episode" of the house warming party. Because they settle lower for a game title of Yahtzee ("Is charades from the table?" Shaun sighs), a gamble to find out who would go to fetch a pizza delivery creates (in Abed's mind) six different timelines. And what goes on next, with each scenario unfold, discloses the result around the group whenever a single member leaves the area. Versions on character-specific running gags ensue, building to some hilariously calamitous meltdown along with a wise final twist that sets everything right again. I loved this episode, and expect all individuals who love Community will too, while individuals that do not continues to scratch their noggins because they question what all of the fuss is all about. Within the Parks and Entertainment episode that follows (8:30/7:30c), Leslie tries to upstage Ron Swanson's boys-only fun-deprived backwoods group if you take her very own distaff club, the Pawnee Goddesses, with an adjacent outing. However when she finds out she might have been successful too well "I have produced a mob of little Leslie Knope monsters," she realizes with a mixture of horror and pride - something should be done. Easily the funniest subplot now goes towards the show's most serious character, Ben, telling us just how much better Parks got when Adam Scott (Ben) and Take advantage of Lowe (Chris) became a member of the ensemble. When Tom and Donna drag a reluctant Ben along for any day's self-indulgence, his tries to relax only lead him to more irritated and comically stressed. Even harps lead him to nervous. Something informs me he wouldn't make an excellent Pawnee Ranger. Want more fall TV news? Sign up for TV Guide Magazine now! Darlene Allen scrubs in at ABC's Grey's Anatomy (9/8c) as Jackson Avery's famous surgeon mother Catherine, available to carry out a rare transplant surgery. ... Stephen Collins and Dee Wallace are his mother and father, and singer Josh Groban tests his comedy chops because the Nard Dog's brother. What exactly else is on? ... Nobody would accuse ABC's battling Charlie's Angels reboot of excessive originality, but now (8/7c), they are really borrowing a script in the original series. It's "Angels in Chains" time, because the gals contrive to land themselves inside a Cuban prison to hack a kidnapping ring. It's Senior Prank Evening around the CW's The Vampire Journals (8/7c), even though Elena and also the gang make an effort to have a great time before beginning senior year (yeah, right), naturally - or, rather, supernaturally - some uninvited visitors appear to awaken some danger. Ratings: American Horror Story Scares 5 Million; Suburgatory Slips Slightly
Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Taissa Farmiga To borrow a phrase from A Clockwork Orange: Ratings for the American Horror Story premiere were "real horror show" - meaning, real good. The new drama from Glee bosses Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk attracted 3.2 million viewers at 10/9c and slightly more than 5 million counting the encore airing. FX Networks President John Landgraf said Thursday he was "thrilled," adding: "We're equally thrilled by the response to last night's episode on social media, which was unanimously positive and demonstrated that the audience loved the show as much as we do." American Horror Story: Connie Britton answers the burning questions On the broadcast networks, preliminary Nielsen data showed that Suburgatory's second outing slipped a relatively small 7 percent, neatly ensconcing itself in ABC's Wednesday comedy block, while Free Agents performed so poorly again that it got cut from NBC's lineup. The new ABC sitcom - in the time slot hammock of 8/30/7:30c between The Middle and Modern Family - grabbed 9.05 million and a 3.0 rating among 18-to-49-year-olds after opening to 9.81 million and 3.3, which marked a 27 percent improvement over last year's tenant of the time slot, Better With You. In the same slot, the new NBC sitcom starring Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn managed just 3.28 million viewers - which actually was slightly up from 3.11 million a week ago - and a 1 rating in the industry-prized demo. This Nielsen data led the network to make it the second casualty of the 2011-12 season. NBC cancels Free Agents After all the spin-doctoring and mea culpas uttered by Simon Cowell to lower ratings expectations, Fox's The X Factor appears to have found its plateau, averaging 11.54 million and 3.6 demo, continuing a downward trend. (It opened to a 12.14 million viewers and a 4.2 demo and brought back 11.51 million and 3.9 last week.) At 9:30/8/:30c, Raising Hope kept just 6.19 million. CBS won the night's overall viewership battle with its lineup of Survivor: South Pacific, (10.54 million), the night's most-watched program Criminal Minds (13.34 million) and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (11.81 million) - the last two winning their respective time slots at 9/8c and 10/9c. At 8/7, ABC's The Middle grabbed 9.01 million, as NBC's Up All Night enjoyed a fourth-week upturn to 5.65 million viewers and The CW's H8R descended to 1.15 million. Fall Preview: Get scoop on your favorite returning shows Modern Family kept up its strong showing on ABC, entertaining 13.08 million people and posting a night-winning 5.6 demo; Week 2 of Happy Endings had 6.92 million people tuning in after setting a series high with 7.38 million. Also in prime time's middle hour: NBC's Harry's Law (8.22 million) and America's Next Top Model on The CW (1.68 million). In the final prime-time hour, ABC's Revenge is a dish, if not served cold, served to fewer and fewer people. It pulled in 7.70 million, another big drop from last week's 8.55 million (and 10.15 million for its premiere). Law & Order: Special Victims Unit totaled 7.88 million, compared with last week's 7.14 million (and 7.60 million for its 13th season premiere).

Help Cast 'Dr. Sleep,' Stephen King's Follow-up to 'The Shining'
Oh, Uncle Stephen, you'd us at sailing vampires of the underworld from the underworld. Stephen King has confirmed historic gossips that he's concentrating on a follow-up to 'The Shining' referred to as 'Dr. Sleep.' It'll have a now-middle-aged Danny Torrance, a hospice full of dying patients, and, yes, people aforementioned sailing vampires of the underworld from the underworld -- a tribe of buccaneers who suck up psychic energy instead of blood stream from clairvoyants like Danny. Naturally, we're not just breathless with anticipation for your book, but additionally for that inevitable movie version. To be able to get yourself a visit 'Dr. Sleep: The Film,A Moviefone features a bevy of strategies for casting and pointing that will make certain the film is really a worthy follow-around the classic 1980 Stanley Kubrick undertake 'The Shining.' On Wednesday, King confirmed news of 'Dr. Sleep' on his website, some couple of years after he'd first recommended at plans from the 'Shining' follow-up. In the last weekend, inside an appearance at George Mason College, King spoken about this and study a passage out of this. He mentioned he'd always wondered what went lower to 'The Shining's haunted, psychic child after he was elevated, that they finally made a decision to discover that by writing a follow-up. Inside the yet-incomplete 'Dr. Sleep,' Danny has turned into a 40-year-some guy your hospice, where he uses his gift to help relieve dying patients to rest issues. King referred to: This kinda goes back to: what's the worst factor you could consider?... I understood that there has been bad people in this story that have been like vampires of the underworld from the underworld, that whatever they attracted out wasn't blood stream, but psychic energy from special people like Danny Torrance. Which I discovered realize that these people were referred to as Tribe that they maneuver around a good deal, which their leader can be a lady who calls herself Rose the Hat. Everybody has these kinda sailing names, because pirates is type of what they are. Stephen King Discusses 'Dr. Sleep' There's no posting date in place yet, a more compact amount a movie deal, but c'mon, you understand you will see considered a movie version. Ultimately, there's a film version of just about any other King title, and many of people King movies were created by ace company company directors -- Kubrick, David Cronenberg, Make the most of Reiner, Frank Darabont, Taylor Hackford -- and so are considered classics. Clearly, King was infamously unhappy with Kubrick's version of 'The Shining,' a great deal to make sure that he produced a TV miniseries version he felt was more faithful for the book. Still, the simplest approach to keep King and also the lots of fans happy is always to ensure top-notch individuals are attached towards the large-screen adaptation. Certain names to consider... CASTING &bull Edward Norton. Consider him since the tormented, split-personality killer in 'Primal Fear' or perhaps the sleep deprived, hollow-eyed protagonist of 'Fight Club.' This shouldn't be considered a stretch. &bull Michael Shannon. Seen him on 'Boardwalk Empire' lately? He's doing haunted and hazardously obsessive perfectly, something he develops on in this week's 'Take Shelter.' &bull Philip Seymour Hoffman. He's already carried out an element similar to this in 'Magnolia,' simply with a plague of frogs instead of sailing vampires of the underworld from the underworld. Plus, dude is capable of doing virtually anything. &bull Michael Fassbender. They can be menacing (see him as Magneto in 'X-Males: Top Quality,A), but as his Mr. Rochester in 'Jane Eyre' proves, they can glower and brood wonderfully. &bull Elijah Wood. Just just in case the filmmakers desire to participate in the saucer-eyed, child-guy areas of the level of smoothness, they need to use Frodo. Stephen King Reads from 'Dr. Sleep' Pointing &bull David Cronenberg. Yes, he's already done a Stephen King movie. Clearly, 'The Dead Zone' was thirty years ago, and he's only become better as we age. &bull Alfonso Cuarón. The initial-rate fantasy director who introduced us for the Dementors inside the 'Harry Potter' saga shouldn't cash issue with psychic energy-drawing vampires of the underworld from the underworld. &bull Gore Verbinski. They are fully aware his pirates. Plus, his title is Gore -- he needs to be pointing only horror movies. &bull Kathryn Bigelow. Back before she was an Oscar-winning, all-war-movies-all-the-time director, she developed a jewel from the vampire movie, the too-little-seen 'Near Dark.' She should take another crack at horror. &bull Mike Raimi. After he finishes 'Oz: The Fantastic and Effective,' the erstwhile 'Evil Dead' and 'Spider-Man' director might have lots of time on his hands. He's a horror innovator, and he's clearly very at ease with sequels. H/T to Slashfilm as well as the Audio-video Club. Follow Gary Susman on Twitter @garysusman. Lady Gaga Wants To Meet With Obama Over Bullying
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Lady Gaga wants to meet with President Barack Obama about her concerns over bullying. Gaga expressed sadness over Twitter Wednesday about the suicide death of a 14-year-old NY boy who had complained in an online video about being bullied over his sexuality. The pop singer tweeted to her 13.7 million followers: I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting. This must end. A Democratic official said Gaga plans to attend an Obama fundraiser next week on the West Coast but no private meeting has been scheduled. The official spoke on condition of anonymity and was not authorized to speak publicly about the fundraiser. In videos, Jamey Rodemeyer described being taunted in his school hallways and receiving hateful messages online before his suicide death Sunday outside his home in Williamsville, N.Y. The video was part of the It Gets Better Project, which is meant to give hope to gay teens. In his blog, Rodemeyer referred to himself as gay and made frequent references to suicide and to his idol, Lady Gaga, who often sings about acceptance of gays and lesbians. Rodemeyers parents said the boy had been bullied for years but appeared to be doing better since beginning high school a few weeks ago. Police are investigating whether criminal charges should be filed in the case. NY state doesnt have an anti-bullying law but authorities have said bullies could be charged with harassment or aggravated harassment. The White House held a conference on bullying prevention in March to discuss bullying, estimating that it affects 13 million students, or about a third of those attending school. Obama said then he hoped to dispel the myth that bullying is just a harmless rite of passage or an inevitable part of growing up. Its not. Copyright 2011 by Associated Press.
